Cryptokitties has today announced that, due to network congestion, they are increasing the birthing fee from 0.001 ETH ($0.47) to 0.002 ETH ($0.94).

This will ensure that your kittens are born on time!

The extra is needed to encourage miners to add birthing transactions to the chain.
